Hello all!
Welcome to our blog! This is where we will tell you all about our great 1 year adventure on the roads of Europe out to discover wonderful people and places.
After months of work and preparation it's only a few days before to "partir en vadrouille"! A French expression that means "to take the road and wander around" which gave the name to our blog "La Grande Vadrouille". This is also the name of a very popular French movie with a very well known actor called Louis de Funès. And by the way, we intend to take a similar picture to the film poster so stay tuned for it 😅.
But actually we should talk more about a "petite vadrouille" for now as we are forced to come back to France in a few weeks because of an administrative formality 😠. We'll spare you the details but in short, as Jérôme and I fixed up our van ourselves (well mostly Jérôme 😉), we need to have it homologated as a camper van by a local government entity. We filled out the long and complicated application and turned it in in March. After 3 months we followed up on our situation to be told that our appointment wouldn't be before the end of September or early October. Which forces us to come back to Voiron to get the Holy Grail... vive la France😒.
After the shock of the news passed on we told ourselves it wasn't the end of the world and that we'd simply do a small loop before the big loop. With a good 7-8 weeks ahead of us and keeping in mind we should stay within a few days drive from home a huge range of possibilities was open to us ! After reflexion and discussion we chose to head towards Britain. A part of the world that was not on our original road map for many reasons but surely not because of lack of interest. So, as the French expression says, since only fools never change their minds our adventure will begin in Scotland where we intend to wander around for a good part of August before we head down to Wales and England in September, right in time for the Women's World Cup of Rugby. What a nice coincidence! Guess who put 2 and 2 together 😏? We already bought tickets to 3 games 😊.
So see you across the Channel!!
Your plan sounds terrific. This will be a fun blog to follow! Bonne chance.
