Kalá Christoúgenna!

It's already Christmas!

Hard to believe we've been on the road for almost five months! Time has just flown by… The Christmas scenery is very different this year: olive groves have replaced fir trees, and baklava has taken the place of the traditional log on the table. Despite the lovely weather we’ve had overall for the past two weeks, a full day of rain was forecasted right on Christmas Eve. While we had planned to meet up with other fellow travelers for a Christmas on the beach, it all fell through😞.

So we adjusted our plans a bit, and they ended up coinciding with those of Sarah and Renaud, a young couple from Rennes (who also lived in Quebec for four years) whom we had met in Nafplio. After a wonderful day walking around the Giavola lagoon, we got together for a small festive evening a little ahead of time. A wonderful day and evening.

Since we’ve been slowly but surely exploring the Peloponnese, we’ve crossed paths with many, many four-wheeled nomads like us. We must admit that the region is an ideal playground: stunning landscapes, ancient sites, charming towns and villages, and plenty of wonderful spots where you can settle for free without feeling like you’re bothering anyone—sometimes even right on the beach! Absolutely unthinkable farther north along the Adriatic…

It really is enjoyable to be able to chat, share our common experiences and good tips, and to live part of each other’s adventures together for a few hours or a few days. Besides Sarah and Renaud, we also met Maude and Pierre, originally from Franche-Comté, like Justine and Roman whom we met in Albania. Pierre being an oenologist (it couldn’t not be a good match 😉), we didn’t hesitate to follow him for a small tasting at a local winemaker’s, and to leave with some stock for the holidays 😁.

We’re staying in touch with all these wonderful people, following our respective journeys (via Polar Steps for them and Travel Map for us), and there’s a good chance we’ll meet again, as we’re all planning to head towards Turkey afterwards.

But we’re not done with Greece yet, which so far has completely won us over. It can be said: this country is blessed by the gods.

Breathtaking and highly varied landscapes, from the sea and the beach (yes, yes, we’re swimming) 😎

to the mountains,

and the cities, not forgetting ancient sites such as Olympia and Epidaurus.

We’re also charmed by the kindness of the Greeks. Smiling, welcoming, laid-back—the vast majority of people we’ve met everywhere have been lovely. A woman at the cheese stall in the Kalamata market gave me her tzatziki recipe (already tested and approved), and what can we say about the friendly owner of the Souvlaki Panagiotis restaurant in Kalamata (an address recommended by Pierre), who makes the best souvlaki pitas—not in Greece, not in the world, but in the universe!!! At least according to him 😂. We can confirm they are really, really good 😋😋.

We’re ready for what comes next, and it’s looking promising!!

We wish you all a very Happy Holidays filled with wonderful moments with family and friends. See you in 2026 💗.
